Been testing out a solar installation for a repeater site.
Using two 75W BP Solar panels and a 10A regulator.
The battery is a lead-acid deep cycle "solar master motolite" 100Ah, purchased in the Philippines.
We would normally use sealed gel batteries, but we couldn't find them around here..
Some measurements:
ICOM IC-FR5000 VHF repeater TX 11A, standby 0,7A
The average current produced by the panels during the day is around 4A on clear days.
It might not be enough for heavy intensity talk cycles.
For the last week with a very reduced radio traffic the batteries have remained fully charged.
Will do more calculations later on.
We also tested the capacity of the 100Ah batteries. So it took 7 days of normal repeater operation for a fully charged battery to reach 10V and cause the repeater to shut down. Not too bad :-)
