Motorola GP360 sel5 radio ids

A simple guide to configure identification of stations using Select-5 signaling
Let's assume you have your channels already configured and want to be able to identify on the screen each time a user transmits.

First of all, take a pen and paper (or an Excel sheet) and make a list of all radio users you will have in the network. If you have different types or groups, like guards, logistics, mobiles, etc, you might want to separate them for future segregation.
For each unit you will need to define a unique unit id.
I recommend to put a letter (A-F) in the beginning of the id to be able to differentiate between individual calls, status calls, or for different groups.
In this example I am considering a universe of 30 users, so 2 digits (ids from 00 to 99) will be enough for now. Ids will go from F00 to F99.
Since our cars IDs already have 5 digit numbers, we could also have a different series, from 00000 to 99999.
An encode sequence may consist of up to 12 tones. Use the shortest possible, as it takes air time to transmit the id, and it can be annoying to hear it each PTT.

An encode sequence may contain

  • Any of the standard signalling tones (0 - 9, A,B,C,D,E,F)
  • Group, Repeat
  • Radio ID digits (U1), (U2) … (U8) for select 5 sequences.
By default, A is used for group, E is used for repeat. You may change this attribution.

Now start by entering the Sel-5 sequence to be transmitted for the radio (remember, each unit will have to be programmed with a different sequence. All other settings will be the same)
The pretime is important if you are using repeaters. 260ms is the minimum for the repeaters in my organisation.

Now check that you have Telegram 1 using Sequence 1

Now configure the decoding of telegrams. In this example we only want to see on the screen the number of the unit transmitting. Here we will enter the pattern of accepted ids: F(A1A2)
F is a fixed digit. Inside brackets we have two address variables, which will be shown on screen.

You can define lots of alerts. In this case, we want the radios to be quiet and simply show who is calling. Remove all options.

Create a new personality, in case you don't want to use signalling in all channels. Otherwise, just edit Personality 1. I am using Personality 2 with signalling every time a user starts transmitting and Personality 1 without signalling.
In the PTT tab you can define when telegrams (radio id) should be sent.

Go to S5 Decode tab and tick all telegrams you want to decode. We only defined one, so tick 1.

Finally, make sure that you have the right Personality attributed to your working channel.
Go to the channel window, Miscellaneous tab, then choose Personality 2.
Repeat for other channels.

I will add a short video demonstrating the results
